Bullard is about 15 miles south of Tyler, where U.S. Route 69 meets FM 2137, 2493 and 344. The town reaches into both Smith and Cherokee counties and grew from 2,463 residents in 2010 to 3,318 in 2020.
What that means for your plumbing
That's 35% growth in ten years, so a lot of Bullard homes are recent builds on what used to be open land. New neighborhoods often have long service lines and some are on septic. If you are not sure which you have, see septic or sewer?
Families and hot water
The 2020 census found 31.8% of Bullard residents were under 18 and a median age of 33.6. Larger families can outgrow the water heater that came with the house. If you're running out of hot water, see tank or tankless.
From Etna to Hewsville to Bullard
Settlers were near here by the early 1850s, and the Etna post office opened just west of town in 1867. John and Emma Bullard arrived about 1870, and in 1881 John opened the Hewsville post office in his store. When Etna's post office closed in 1883, Hewsville took the Bullard name. The railroad from Tyler to Lufkin brought a depot, and by 1890 the town had 200 residents, a doctor and a telegraph office. The town did not elect a city council until 1948. Homes near the old crossroads are the oldest in town, so it's worth having their supply and drain lines checked before a remodel.
